February 14, 2018 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
On February 14, Sharmila Rudrappa, is coming to the department colloquium, and we are hosting a Feminist Salon that evening to have a more in-depth discussion about feminist ethnography and global fieldwork, and to celebrate a feminist valentine’s day! Sharmila Rudrappa is a professor of sociology and the Center for Women and Gender Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, and has written a fascinating book, Discounted Life: The Price of Global Surrogacy in India (New York University Press, 2015) based on her extensive fieldwork in India. Judy Taylor is generously hosting us in her place afterwards. We will provide delicious food (vegan and vegetarian options available) and we ask faculty members to bring a bottle of wine or any kind of alcoholic or nonalcoholic beverage. Graduate students are asked to just bring themselves! Anyone is welcome to bring significant others, friends, and family as well (just let us know the number of guests you are bringing when you RVSP) Please RSVP by January 31, 2018 to Hae Yeon Choo (email@example.com) so that we know how much food to prepare. Looking forward to seeing all of you at the feminist salon!
