Navigating the Academic Job Market

You are welcome to attend if you plan to go on the academic job market this year, Fall 2019, or in the next couple of years (Fall 2020 or Fall 2021). Please RSVP to Irene Boeckmann (irene.boeckmann@utoronto.ca) by Friday, April 19th if you plan to attend.

We will discuss practical and personal aspects of the navigating the job market. Depending on participants’ interest, the topics we will cover include:

  • What does it mean to go on the academic job market?
  • Where are the jobs posted?
  • What is the typical job market timeline?
  • If you go to ASA, what should you do?
  • What documents will you need to prepare for different types of academic jobs?
  • The job talk: Best practices and pitfalls
  • How to navigate the campus visit
  • Applying for post-docs

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from graduate students who were recently on the market and who will share their experiences.
