Sociology Research Writing Retreat

April 17 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

This ½ day event intersperses quiet, uninterrupted writing time with the opportunity to work with Sherri on pieces of writing. The event is geared towards senior graduate students, post-docs and junior faculty members but any members of the community working on a piece of writing are welcome to attend.

While graduate students might use this time to work on a dissertation chapter, they might also use it to work on a post-doc or fellowship proposal, or on an article for publication. Faculty might use the retreat to work on a SSHRC or CIHR draft or on a scholarly publication.

The general goals of the event are to:

  • help build a writing practice
  • offer practical writing support
  • develop a scholarly writing community

The set-up has one room of quiet writing sessions and one room for “live editing” during which individuals can bring pieces of writing that need help and we will edit them together. Participants can choose to attend only quiet writing sessions or a live editing session, or do a combination of both. Given the time constraints, the live editing sessions will only focus on sentence and paragraph level editing and work on, at most, one page of text. Please indicate in your RSVP if you would like a live editing session.

We will provide refreshments.
