Toronto Inequality Workshop
November 5, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Organizer: Geoff Wodtke (email@example.com)
Website: UofT SharePoint->Sociology->Toronto Inequality Workshop
Schedule: Monday, 11/5, from 4:00-6:00pm in Rm. 240
“The Effect of Changes in City-Level Median Home Prices upon Depressive Symptoms among Older Americans” by Jason Settels.
Objectives: This workshop provides graduate students and faculty with opportunities to share their research at any stage with others working on a variety of issues related to inequality and social stratification, broadly defined. The primary goal of the TIW is to assist graduate students with writing papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals and constructing high-quality presentations. The workshop can be used to crowdsource feedback on a new project or to practice conference presentations and job talks based on a more polished paper.
Format: The typical format for each session will consist of a presenter circulating a draft of their paper one week in advance of the meeting. Participants will then read the paper and prepare comments. For the first part of the meeting, the author will give a 15-20 minute presentation outlining the key points of the paper, and the remaining time will be used for group discussion.
Requirements: Presenters are expected to circulate a draft of their paper via the workshop website one week before their presentation. Authors must also deliver a 15-25 minute presentation to the group summarizing the key points of their paper or proposal. Other registered participants are expected to read the paper, prepare written comments (about 1 page) similar to a peer review report for a journal, and post them on the course website by the evening before the presentation.
