Biography

Professor Schieman’s research interests align with four core areas of the discipline: work/stratification; health/mental health; social psychology; sociology of religion. The overarching aim of his research focuses on the centrality of work in everyday life. One core theme investigates the ways that work shapes the sense of self and identity, status, and well-being. Since 2005, Professor Schieman has collected data from 30,000 workers in the United States and Canada. With decades of quantitative and qualitative evidence—based on large nationally representative surveys, in-person focus groups, in-depth interviews, and free-text response designs—his research tells a rich and detailed story about the quality of working life and its effects over time. See workandhealth.ca for more details about these projects. Find links to publications on Google Scholar and Research Gate.
