Congratulations to Kayla Preston for her recent feature on Global News Radio.
Preston, who is a PhD student at UTM, was featured in a discussion about the rising populist movement in Canada. During her time on the radio, she provided insight into the history of populist movements in Canada, their driving factors, and the ways they can appear in both left-wing and right-wing politics. She further outlined the potential negative impacts of populism along with modern examples of populist leaders and movements in Canadian politics. Preston’s research, largely within the broader category of political sociology, focuses on the far-right political movement and deradicalization.
