Congratulations to Professor Prentiss Dantzler on receiving a 2024 IGNITE grant. Prof. Dantzler receives this grant in support of his research developing the Black Canadian Health Research Database, a collaborative project aimed at addressing the need for race-based data on health in Canada. The project utilizes physician interviews, news articles, and community reports, drawing on both academic and non-academic knowledge. The grant, awarded by the Black Research Network (BRN), provides research funding to Black faculty, librarians, post-doctoral scholars, and clinical and medical researchers engaging in interdisciplinary research at the University of Toronto.

Prentiss Dantzler is Assistant Professor of Sociology and holds cross-appointments in the School of Cities and the Infrastructure Institute at the University of Toronto. His work explores racial capitalism, homeowners’ associations and residential exclusion, and the spatial dynamics of housing assistance in the Greater Toronto Area.
