Anna Katyn Chmielewski

Anna Katyn Chmielewski is an associate professor of Educational Leadership & Policy at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and associate professor of sociology (status only). She received her PhD in Education and MA in Sociology from Stanford University, and was previously a postdoctoral fellow in the Pathways to Adulthood program at Michigan State University and a Thomas J. Alexander fellow at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Prof. Chmielewski’s research examines trends and patterns of educational inequality, both internationally and over time. Current and recent projects have investigated socio-economic disparities in academic achievement, school segregation, curricular differentiation/streaming/tracking, and the consequences of childhood inequality for university access and adult skills. Her research has been published in the American Sociological Review, the American Education Research Journal and Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, and has been funded by SSHRC, the Spencer Foundation and the American Educational Research Association.

She teaches graduate courses in quantitative methods and international comparative sociology of education at OISE.
