Congratulations to Assistant Professor Leafia Ye on winning an R21 Grant (https://www.nia.nih.gov/research/grants-funding/r21-exploratory-developmental-grants) from the U.S. National Institute of Aging. Dr. Ye receives this grant in support of her research project “Immigrant Integration and Health: Multidimensional and Cross-National Analyses Over the Life Course,” which examines the impact of integration on older immigrants’ physical and cognitive health using survey and administrative data. By drawing on a cross-national comparison between the U.S. and Canada, the project also uncovers the role of federal institutional designs in shaping the integration-health link. The outcomes of this project will help uncover why some immigrants experience accelerated health declines over the life course, as well as identify specific areas for policy intervention to reduce racial/ethnic health disparities among immigrant populations.
As Principal Investigator (PI), Prof. Ye will lead a team of scholars from the U.S. and Canada to conduct research on the link between immigrant integration and later life health trajectories. The awarded total amount is US$346,458. The project runs from 2024-26.
Leafia Ye is Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto, where she is also a faculty affiliate at the Global Migration Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. Her areas of interest include immigrant integration and aging inequalities.
