Congratulations to PhD candidate Sara Hormozinejad on receiving the 2024 Congress Student Merit Award from the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) in partnership with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). Award recipients are nominated by the Canadian Sociological Association (CSA) in recognition of graduate student excellence at the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Sara will be presenting her work, “Returnees' lives in (e)motion: Investigating the emotional dimension of return migration through the cultural notion of reesheh (roots) in the case of Iran” at the 2024 CSA Conference. She is also hosting a session on the notion of “home(land)” and its nuanced relationship with return migration and mobilities.
Sara Hormozinejad is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Sociology and a SSHRC CGS-Doctoral Scholar. Her research lies at the intersection of transnational migration and diaspora studies. Her dissertation project examines the meanings and practices of return migration and mobilities and how they are culturally constructed.
