PhD candidate Kayla Preston was recently featured as an expert on right-wing extremism in Canada in a new TVO documentary. The three-part documentary, “The striking rise of right-wing extremism”, traces the historical origins, normalization, and atomization of far-right extremism in Canada. Preston, whose research examines the far right in Canada and the United States, provides information about the origins of far-right extremism in Canada, how the far right mobilizes in the Canadian context, and how the far right is mainstreamed by formal and informal politics. While the documentary focuses on Canada, she also provides a comparative analysis with the United States.
Kayla Preston is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology. Her research examines far-right extremism in Canada and the United States. She is currently studying how youths become involved in and work to uphold far right youth organizations.
