Congratulations to Blair Wheaton, Distinguished Professor of Sociology, who has been appointed as the next S.D. Clark Chair. This appointment recognizes Professor Wheaton’s important and influential research on the social determinants of mental health as well as his standing in the discipline and his leadership in, and contributions to, the UTSG Department of Sociology. Professor Wheaton is a specialist in the areas of quantitative methods and the sociology of mental health.
S.D. Clark was the first Chair of the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto and a key figure in establishing the discipline of sociology in Canada. The S.D. Clark Chair was made possible in part by the generosity of Ed Clark, S.D. Clark’s son. Appointments for S.D. Clark Chairs are made through the work of a committee which considers nominees from the UTSG Department of Sociology. Many thanks to this year’s committee members, Professor Sharla Alegria, Professor Fedor Dokshin, Professor Vanina Leschziner, and Professor Sandy Welsh, and to Professor Bob Brym for his service as the holder of the outgoing S.D. Clark Chair.
Stay tuned for Professor Wheaton’s announcement of the 2022-2023 S.D. Clark annual lecture.
