Wsevolod W. Isajiw, Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto Department of Sociology

We note with sadness the death of Professor Emeritus Wsevolod Isajiw. Professor Isajiw joined the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto in 1970. He had earned his PhD in Sociology from The Catholic University of America in 1967. During his time at the University of Toronto he held various roles, including a term as the Assistant Chair of the Division of Social Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough (known at the time as Scarborough College). During the 1990s he served as the inaugural Robert F. Harney Professor of Ethnic, immigration and Pluralism Studies. The Harney Program in Ethnic, Immigration and Pluralism Studies continues today as a signature program at the University of Toronto. Professor Isajiw was a major figure in the study of ethnicity and diversity in Canada, having published voluminously, organizing dozens of conferences and workshops, and securing significant research funding throughout his career.
